The HAPSAT Society is the association of IHPST graduate students. Every graduate student at the Institute is a member. The executive comprises a President, a Treasurer, a GSU Representative, a Union Steward, and Coordinators for coffee, web, and "colloquialisms," the informal HAPSAT counterpart to Institute colloquiums. The election for these positions occurs each September. HAPSAT is the official voice of the student body, bringing issues of concern to the faculty. Its level of activity and voice are determined by student participation, and varies from year to year.

The one certainty is that HAPSAT will organize one or two parties over the year: the first one is usually a Pot-Luck Blow-Out in September.
