How to Create Your Own U of T Homepage
Preliminary Stuff
- Go to https://www.utorid.utoronto.ca/.
- Click on
"change options".
- Enter your
UTORid and password (the ones you use to check your utoronto email).
- In the table
that appears, you will see what your homepage address is.

- If this is
the first time you set this up, you can change your address in the
"Individual Web Space" option at the bottom of the page.
Creating your Homepage
- Open MS
Word.
- Create your
homepage as you would like it to be.
- To insert a
picture, in the main menu choose Insert->Picture->From File and
choose the file that you would like to insert.
- Save the
file in the following way: Open the Save dialog box; in the
"Save as Type" drop box choose "Web Page (*.htm; *.html)"; then, in the "File name" drop box write the word "index".
Press "Save"

- A file with
the name "index.htm" will be created in your folder. In
addition, a folder with the name "index_files" will also be
created.
Uploading Your Files to the Internet
- Open
"My Computer".
- In the
address bar enter "ftp://individual.utoronto.ca". (If you don’t see an address
bar in which you can type, go to the menu and choose View->Toolbars->Address
Bar.)
- A dialog box
will appear asking your username and password. Enter your UTORid and
password (the ones you use to check your utoronto email)
- In another
window, open the folder in which you saved the file index.htm.
- Drag the
file "index.htm" from your folder to the ftp folder your have
opened in step 3.
- Drag the
folder "index_files" from your folder to the ftp folder your
have opened in step 3.
- Note: All
the files that you upload to the Internet should not have white spaces in
their name. If they have a white space in their name, the upload will
fail. For example "my file.doc" is a bad name, because it has a
space in it, but "my_file.doc" is a good name.
- Congratulations!
You have a new homepage.
